A celebration of science and math at Buffalo State for high school science and mathematics teachers and students.
Teachers are encouraged to invite one or two students who show an interest in science or mathematics to join them for this fun and interesting evening. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-register by May 9, 2014 at https://www.research.net/s/BSCMathScience.
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Science and Math Make and Take and Demonstration Booths
Students and teachers will be able to construct simple electronic gadgets, air rockets, air bags, and other devices. Spectacular hands-on demonstrations including a large hovercraft, liquid nitrogen experiments, and more.
New Science Building Facility Tours
Students and teachers will be able to see up close new experiments in the new Science and Mathematics Complex. Tours will include seeing facilities such as DNA Sequencing, Confocal Microscope, Electron Microscope, NMR, and Single Crystal X ray Crystallography.
6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Speaker: Jamie Szafran, Kennedy Space Center
Ms. Szafran will speak on her experiences as a NASA computer scientist and about STEM careers and opportunities at NASA.
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Speaker: Will Kinney, University at Buffalo, Department of Physics
Professor Kinney will speak on Cosmology. He will entertain with descriptions of the structure and origin of the universe. Amazing new techniques in astronomy have opened an unprecedented window onto the nature of the first moments of time.
